Early Defensive Power Rankings

After week two we have seen some big surprises from teams and some huge disappointments. Three teams that have really surprised me in one way or another would be, the Patriots being my #2 defense after two weeks. They have had an explosive defense, being 8th in points scored, 5th in sacks, 1st in interceptions and 2nd in turnovers. Along with being 2nd in points allowed and 7th in overall yards and 1st in touchdowns allowed the Patriots defense has shown up to play in these first two weeks.

Another team would be the Broncos, last year their defense was, simply put, not good. They were 7th in sacks and had the best red zone defense in the league but other than that had almost nothing in the top 16. So far this season they have looked a lot more like Broncos defenses of the past allowing the 5th most points, 5th mot yards, and have been able to get off the field playing the 5th fewest snaps allowing the 5th fewest first downs, 5th fewest rushing yards and 7th fewest passing yards. Along with this still having the best red zone defense, with the fewest amount of red zone touchdowns and 4th best red zone touchdown % at 33.3%.

One last team That surprised me is the Buccaneers. Last year having a top 10 defense and currently I have them at 23. Despite being the top scoring defense, they are also 23th for points allowed. They have an explosive defense that is 2nd in interceptions and 4th in turnovers however, they are almost last in sacks at 28th. They seem unable sometimes in being able to get off the field since they sit at 31st in total plays. Their passing defense is bad, sitting at 31st in allowed yards and teams know it, they are the second most passed on team in the league and allowing the most completions as well. Their run defense is significantly better being in the top 4. However, they are 19th in touchdowns allowed. This defense while they are able to get turnovers and score, they seem to have a worse pass and run defense compared to last year.
