2. Saints Fend Off 7. Bears in 21-9 Defensive Standoff

The Saints blew out the Bears 21-9 in a game where the score does not reflect the dominance the Saints displayed. The Saints are looking to send Drew Brees out on top and got one step closer after today’s light work. The Saints more than doubled the Bears' amount of first downs with the Saints converting 27 compared to the Bears 11. The Saints had 385 total yards of offense while the Bears matched with only 239 total yards. As well as the Saints holding on to the ball for almost 2/3rds of the game having possession for 38:58 and the Bears with only 21:02. Trubisky played a statistically unimpressive game going 19-29 for 191 yards and a touchdown. David Montgomery was running into a brick wall all night with 12 carries for only 31 yards. Allen Robinson met his teammate's mediocre performances with 6 receptions for 55 yards. Drew Brees had quite a night going 28-39 for 262 yards and 2 touchdowns. Kamara carried the ball 23 times which amounted to 99 yards and a touchdown. Deonte Harris and Michael Thomas combined for 12 receptions, 156 yards, and a touchdown.

The first half of the game was dominated by defense with 7 punts and the first touchdown coming 10 minutes into the game. Wims dropped what would have been a touchdown potentially tying up the game. A 36 yard Santos field goal came around halfway through the second quarter. The second half was not any more entertaining. Starting with a Bears punt, the Saints went on a long drive for a Drew Brees touchdown pass to Latavius Murray for a 14-3 lead late in the third quarter. After a fourth straight Bears punt the Saints have another long drive for an Alvin Kamara rushing touchdown six minutes into the fourth quarter. After a fifth straight Bears punt, they stopped the Saints, marched down the field for a Mitch Trubisky touchdown throw to Jimmy Graham.

Trubisky played well through the game making a lot of good choices but was not able to pull off the upset. Drew Brees had a solid game against a good Bears pass defense; He matches up very well against a poor Buccaneers defense. The Saints are looking to find themselves in their first Super Bowl since 2009 when they beat the Colts. The Saints or at least Brees has some motivation in this likely being his last year and trying to finish out on top.
